Homework (Portfolio and AP): Portrait of a Friend, Family Member, or Pet

The paintings above are by Alice Neel (January 28, 1900 – October 13, 1984) an American visual artist, who was known for her portraits depicting friends, family, lovers, poets, artists and strangers. Her paintings have an expressionistic use of line and color, psychological acumen, and emotional intensity. Neel was called "one of the greatest portrait artists of the 20th century" by Barry Walker, curator of modern and contemporary art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which organized a retrospective of her work in 2010.[1] (Wikipedia)

Due: Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Create a portrait of a friend, family member, or pet, from life (NOT a photograph) in the medium and style of your choice. Spend 2 - 3 hours on the work (so it may require more than one sitting). It needs to be a finished high-quality piece suitable for your portfolio and for exhibition. Consider composition and figure/ground relationship.

Medium: Your choice. May be mixed-media.
Size: Sketchbook-size (11 x 14") or larger
